Indonesia’s “Rotasi” Big Winner at The 5-Min Video Challenge
Indonesia’s “Rotasi” (Rotation) clinched the Grand Prize and top People’s Choice Award at The 5-Min Video Challenge Grand Finals. This inaugural regional short-video competition was organised by the Singtel Group and its Associates (Airtel, AIS, Globe, Optus and Telkomsel). It was conceived as one of the pillars of the Group’s content push and innovation in customer engagement across its footprint in Asia, Africa and Australia.
Directed by Destian Rendra and Denny Pradana, the video beat some 285 entries submitted at the local competition to advance to compete with other 11 finalists for the Grand Prize of US$30K. A story about how a photographer restores his faith in the cycle of life after being disillusioned with the rotation of life after a fight with his friend and girlfriend, “Rotasi” also garnered the highest number of votes from the public. Hence, it emerged People’s Choice #1 and collected cash prize of US$3K.
“Pagnanakaw” (Stealing) from the Philippines was named Runner-up, and received a cash prize of US$15K. The video portrays a young man tasked to buy tofu for his family from a faraway shop every day. As he carries out this daily task dutifully, he would often wonder why he was only given a small container to buy the tofu until one day in which this seemingly inefficient task throws up an illuminating moment.
The recipient of the second People’s Choice Award – a special surprise for the finalists – is “Hello Gorgeous” from Thailand. It is based on a true story of Nut, a young girl, who learns to see the world with a new perspective from exploring North Vietnam with a new group of friends who enjoy travelling. Panu Wiwattanapa and Pheka Charoenpakdi, creators of the video, collected cash prize of US$2K.
Mr Simon Israel, Chairman of the Singtel Group; Ms Chua Sock Koong, Singtel Group’s Chief Executive Officer; and CEOs of the Regional Opcos graced the event. The winner, runner-up and finalists’ videos will be aired to about 630 million subscribers on the Group’s mobile and video platforms across Africa, Australia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore.
